SharedClipboard ("we," "our," or "us") is a cross-platform clipboard history management tool that supports LAN and cloud synchronization across Windows, macOS, and Linux. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data when you use the SharedClipboard application and related services (collectively, the "Service").
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
When you create an account to use our cloud sync features, we collect:
- Email address
- Password (stored as a secure hash, never in plain text)
- A unique user identifier (UUID)
2.2 Device Information
When you register a device for cloud sync, we collect:
- Device name (as provided by you or your operating system)
- Device identifier (generated by the application)
- Platform type (Windows, macOS, or Linux)
2.3 Clipboard Data
If you opt in to cloud sync, your clipboard content (text and images) is transmitted to and stored on our servers. This data is associated with your account and used solely to provide the synchronization service.
2.4 Local-Only Usage
If you use SharedClipboard without cloud sync (local mode or LAN sync only), no clipboard data is sent to our servers. All data remains on your local device or within your local network.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Synchronize your clipboard content across your registered devices
- Authenticate your identity and manage your account
- Enforce subscription plan limits (e.g., device count, record limits)
- Process payments through our third-party payment provider
- Respond to your support requests
We do not use your clipboard content for advertising, analytics, machine learning training, or any purpose other than providing the sync service to you.
4. Data Storage & Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data:
- All API communication is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
- Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms
- Authentication uses short-lived JWT access tokens (15 minutes) with longer-lived refresh tokens (30 days)
- Images are stored in Alibaba Cloud OSS with access controlled via time-limited presigned URLs
- Our database is hosted on Alibaba Cloud RDS with encryption at rest
While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Cloud Sync Service
The cloud sync feature is optional. Key points:
- Cloud sync requires creating an account and is governed by your subscription plan
- Clipboard items are deduplicated using content hashes to minimize storage
- Images are automatically compressed (max 2K pixels on the longest side, JPEG format) to reduce bandwidth and storage
- Cloud sync storage is subject to your subscription plan's item limits and your own deletion actions
- You can delete your clipboard data at any time through the application
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Lemon Squeezy — Payment processing for subscriptions. When you subscribe, your payment information is handled directly by Lemon Squeezy. We do not store your credit card details. Please refer to Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy for details.
- Alibaba Cloud (Aliyun) — Database hosting (RDS) and object storage (OSS) for images.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
7. Cookies & Tracking
Our website uses minimal client-side storage:
- localStorage — Used to store authentication tokens (
sc_auth_token, sc_refresh_token) and your language preference. These are essential for the Service to function.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or social media tracking pixels on our website.
8. Data Retention
- Clipboard data — Retained until you delete it or it is removed because your plan has reached its storage/item limits.
- Account data — Retained as long as your account is active. You may request account deletion at any time.
- Images — Stored in object storage while the associated clipboard item remains available in your account.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data through the application or by contacting us
- Delete your clipboard data at any time through the application
- Delete your account by contacting us, which will remove all associated data
- Export your clipboard data through the application
- Opt out of cloud sync entirely by using local-only or LAN sync mode
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you may also have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically for any changes.
